The Great Coats

Wrapped, buttoned or hanging loose; from mini to ankle lenghth and sometimes on the knee; checked, flecked, flapperishly fringed, or plain as anything – in fabrics that range from the heaviest felt to the lightest silk, this seasonTHE COAT IS THE VEHICLE for a superfluity of styles. If you have missed the design, fashion and lifestyle mecca Colette – then don’t tell anyone. It’s a boutique (A MUST SEE) on one of the prominent streets of Paris Rue Saint Honore (along with Hermes, Balmain, Chanel etc) selling super trendy fashion stuff, organizing exhibits and presentations almost every week and serving chic food in their cafe. Colette attracts with its urban mood, when entering the shop you become part of the WHOLE THING. Music is big part of it so here is our playlist, chosen by girls from M-COUTURE studio:

Literature: How to be Parisian

Well, this is definitely book of the books for fashion girls. Can you recall a lady who would say: “Nah, I don’t care about Paris!” ? We are not that type, so we stick with Paris, the vibe of the city, and no matter where we are – love, style and bad habits make us more or less “les Parisiennes”.

how-to-be-parisian-wherever-you-are_newsletter-10-14_storm_3

This book, written by Anne Berest, Audrey Diwan, Caroline de Maigret and Sophie Mas – talented iconoclasts and friends for years – give their very original views on style, culture, attitude and men alongside making fun of their complicated, often contradictory, feelings and behavior. But don’t expect too much of this book, because it is full of cliches, yet fun, romantic and inspiring.

Shhh… they also say that the most famous Parisiennes are FOREIGNERS. Like Marie Antoinette, Josephine Baker, Romy Schneider and Jane Birkin. That makes the game easier for us! Who would have thought?!

Plus, we will share a list of books fantastic authors of this book say we shouldn’t miss:

The Stranger, ALBERT CAMUS

The Elementary Particles, MICHEL HOUELLEBECQ

Belle du Seigneur, ALBERT COHEN

Bonjour Tristesse, FRASNCOISE SAGAN

Madame Bovary, GUSTAVE FLAUBERT

Foam of the Daze, BORIS VIAN

Lolita, VLADIMIR NABOKOV

The Flowers of Evil, CHARLES BAUDELAIRE

Journey to the End of the Night, LOUIS FERDINAND CELINE

Swann’s Way, MARCEL PROUST

Comment ca va?

She is definitely our girl! Editor of very “tasty” food magazine ČETRAS SEZONAS Signe Meirāne, steps out in M-Couture fly away skirt for her latest “Letter from the editor”. She speaks to her devoted reader in french asking: “Bonjour mon ami! Comment ca va?” and answering “Ca va bien! De bon gout!” She knows how good food tastes and that’s what we love about her PLUS she looks good in her kitchen. That’s a modern day cook with a an exquisite taste.

Liene Stūraine spotted wearing M-Couture Kennedy jacket

Liene Stūraine is an IT girl – she never (almost never) wears the same outfit for a public event, is smart, sexy and knows good style, but above all she is not into fashion, instead you might get deep with her about law.

The cover matters

We guess you are familiar with the feeling, when you see a cover and just stand and look, look, look… That’s what happened to us this month, when we got up one morning and went to the local news stand to grab a hot coffee, croissant and daily newspaper. There it all was…almost total look by M-Couture on the cover of L’Officiel Latvija styled by Olga Kolotova and photographed by Oleg Zernov.

STREET STYLE: Sweater over Skirt

Girls are smart – keep chic and sexy, but warm. Wear your chunky knitted sweater over a light pleated skirt and you will be the one stopping the traffic. Street style has always been an inspiration for designers, you, me and all the rest, so we spotted some nice girls on the streets of New York and Paris wearing THE STYLE of season FW14.

Play the attitude

Powerful yet feminine with a real sense of cool. Self confidence, easy hair and almost no make-up, that is M-Couture perfect every day look and super relaxed vibe. In the latest collection M-Couture offers a double breasted, oversized  “powder” pea coat which you can wear either with everyday jeans or over a beautiful evening dress.

By the way if we jump into fashion history, did you know that the term “pea jacket” comes from Dutch word pij, which describes a rough, warm, woollen fabric. In the 19th century the pea jacket was a heavy, double breasted, hip-length jacket worn by sailors, fishermen and women. In the 1920s the shape was popularized by Chanel.
